"I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it." ~ Psalms 81:10 (ESV)
During a moment of study and prayer I was led to this scripture - Psalm 81:10. It felt like the words were jumping off the page at me, as I read it. In the first part of this scripture, not only are we being reminded of who God is, but also of His incredible promise, power and position.
I want you to think about the act of opening your mouth, not just a little, but WIDE. When someone asks you to open your mouth WIDE, it's probably going to take a certain level of trust to do this, right? For example, your dentist asks you to open your mouth wide so that he/she can use sharp, pointy tools to complete dental work in your mouth. I'm sure you might have some reservations about doing it, but you do it to get the necessary work done. Or if you have children you may have asked them to open their mouth wide so that you can fill it with medicine that is going to help them feel better. While they may be reluctant and you may have to coax them to do it, they open their mouth for you to fill it.
The profound insight that I got from this is that God requires us to trust Him through and with all of our spirit-led desires. This scripture came to me at a time when I was toiling over the "how" of expanding and marketing my ministry in the midst of all that I have going on in my life. I was quickly reminded that I had not been opening my mouth wide. Sure, I shared it with a few friends and family members and attempted to launch a couple of marketing campaigns, but when I didn't see the results I was looking for I stopped opening my mouth.
Those of us who are trying desperately to achieve our visions, goals and dreams, but are afraid to open our mouths WIDE and trust God to fill it, will continue to find ourselves struggling with the "what, how and when". Opening your mouth WIDE requires you to act in courageous and bold faith, trusting that God will provide. It's going to require some radical, and sometimes uncomfortable, movement on your part. It's going to require you to go into new places and seek new faces to bring your vision to life. It's going to require you to share your ideas and dreams with people outside your circle even if they don't fully embrace it. It's going to require you to revisit some ideas that failed and try them again in a different way. It's time.
In this season you might have found your mouth completely shut or you may have opened your mouth just a little, but I am sure you already know, "closed mouths don't get fed". It's time to OPEN YOUR MOUTH WIDE and trust God to fill it.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for reminding me that you are the same God that brought me out of hard times and that you deeply care for me. Thank you for your promise to continue to fulfill my needs. Please help me to be bold and courageous enough to open my mouth WIDE to carry out the visions, goals and dreams that you have trusted me to carry forward to your people. Allow me to expand my thoughts and actions beyond what I have previously done in order to see different results. I trust you, Father, as I open my mouth WIDE and graciously expect that you will fill it with good things. In Jesus Name, Amen.
