Have you ever had your car stuck in the mud or snow? I have a time or two and let me tell you it’s not a fun experience! Being a Midwest girl, I've experienced my share of driving in the snow, sliding in the sleet and walking through some pretty thick mud. But, there is truly nothing like getting your car stuck in a mound of mud covered snow. No matter how hard you try, your wheels just keep spinning and spinning; only making matters worse. Your only saving grace is a kind stranger who comes along to give you a push to help get you on your way.
That push might come in the form of a friend or family member’s encouraging words or challenge for you to try a different approach to something. It might come in the form of an opportunity that you might normally turn down. It could also come from a complete stranger who was sent just to give you the help you need.
God knows what we need and when we need it. He has a way of showing us signs regarding the very area where we’re stuck. Our challenge is not being too busy, too distracted or too proud to see the signs. If this is starting to sound eerily familiar to you, then I encourage you to take a moment and think about the many signs that God sent to push you from your stuck position. Are you beginning to remember a few pushes? If so, good.
Now, I’m going to give you a little push. Yep, that’s right; right here and now. Are you ready to take the limits off and get out of that mound that you've been stuck in? Great, let’s go! Writing your wildest dream or vision without limits will sometimes help you get unstuck or help you identify where your gifts and talents lie. It can also help you move from complacent to creative.
I want you to close your eyes (well, after you read the rest of the activity) and think about what you would do if there was no possibility that you could fail. Think about where you’re at in your life and what you would love to be doing. Got it?
Ok, now in a journal or notebook, finish this statement: "If there were no possibility for me to fail, I would..."
Now, carefully look at what you wrote and begin to identify areas where you’re currently using skills that could get you closer to your dream. Identify people that you're connected to that are currently operating in this area that you may be able to connect with for encouragement and education.
Hopefully, you were able to identify a few key nuggets in your writing. What you do with those nuggets is now up to you. If you weren't able to complete this exercise, don’t be discouraged, be prayerful and try it again at a later time. It might take a few tries to get going.
If you’re still searching for your gifts and talents and what God has purposed you to do or be, I encourage you to spend some alone time with Him. He will reveal where He placed your gifts & talents and what He wants you to do with them. You’ll be reminded of the many times God used your gifts, even when you didn't recognize it. You may not have had a big platform or stage, but your life has trails and imprints of your gifts all over it.
